CIVIL AIR PATROL (CAP) YOU THE PROGRAM PROVIDES LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO FLY

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet Program, provides aerospace education -- orientation flights in powered planes and gliders, STEM concepts with hands-on activities -- to teens at JP Stevens High School in Edison every Tuesday (except Holidays) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The cadets learn military structure (customs, courtesies, discipline, drills, physical training, and leadership) and also provide community service. CAP also offers different types of summer camps from STEM to learning flight.
Two local participants are Ethan and Gavin Morrobel of Scotch Plains. Their mom, Pam Aasen, explains that the brothers have had a love of airplanes and space since they were little.

"I am happy that there is an organization in which they can pursue that passion by flying airplanes, studying about aerospace, and participating in community service while building leadership skills in an organization led by dedicated adult volunteers that share those passions," she said.
On April 24, the Captain "Bud" Jackson Composite Squadron NJ-102 hosted an information session for the community to learn about the program and what it takes to become a member. The event had a turnout of over 50 students, parents, family members, and school staff.
"CAP is where I have learned to be a good leader," says Ethan, a sophomore at Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS. "I also get to do my favorite thing in the world, which is to fly airplanes."
"I enjoy CAP because we get to do fun activities like building a robotic arm and using flight simulators," adds Gavin, an eighth grader at Terrill Middle School. "I am looking forward to my first flight, which is hopefully soon."
