South Africa: Nokia 1 Smartphone Arrives in SA

By Akani Chauke
Johannesburg — THE Nokia 1 smartphone is now available in South Africa.
HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, lauds the device as "a breakthrough in accessible technology, delivering smartphone essentials, refreshingly familiar design and the reassuring quality of a Nokia."
It runs the latest Android Oreo (Go edition), a version of Android for devices with 1GB RAM or less.
Other features include a quad-core processor, front (5MP) and rear (2MP) cameras, 4G connectivity and dual SIM.
Shaun Durandt, HMD Global General Manager, said as the value market leader in feature phones, it understood the barriers and challenges people faced when it came to the step up to a smartphone, hence the firm had through the Nokia 1 made its "most accessible smartphone ever."
The executive said there were more than 1,3 billion feature phone users around the world, many from markets in Asia and Africa.
"With the Nokia 1, we have combined the reassuring quality and design of a Nokia smartphone with the latest Android Oreo (Go edition) software to deliver exceptional value and realise our dream of creating a complete smartphone experience, accessible to all South Africans," Durandt said.
