Hamden Ranks Among Best Cities To Start A Small Business In U.S.

HAMDEN, CT — A new report ranks Hamden among the top 500 Best Cities to Start a Small a Business in the U.S., Mayor Curt Balzano Leng announced in a press release. LendEdu, which was founded as a marketplace for private student loans, student loan refinancing and consolidation, personal loans, and other financial products, ranked Hamden No. 285 on its list of the top 500. Other Connecticut towns and cities that made the list include: Storrs, Mansfield, Stamford, Farmington, Windsor, Oxford, Wesport, Cromwell and New Fairfield.
"I am very pleased to learn that Hamden has once again been recognized as a quality place to invest in," Leng said in a statement. "Hamden encompasses a unique blend of New England charm and bustling metropolitan lifestyle, which reflects very well on our ability to support a wide variety of small or family owned businesses as well as some larger corporate partners. I am confident that Hamden will continue enhancing its status as a home for small businesses here in Connecticut, and I look forward to working hard to fulfill this goal."
LendEdu used three factors to help calculate its rankings. The first is population score, which has two components: daytime population score (the difference in the normal population and the population that is present during the standard working day hours), and the projected population growth over the next five years. The second is the income score, which is comprised of the disposable income score (average disposable income that is available to residents), and the forecasted income growth over the next five years. The third is the expenses score, which is based on property tax rates, sales tax rate, average cost of utilities, rate of burglaries compared to the national average, and the property crime score.
