HEAR VOCAL TRIO, JAZZ BAND, AFRICAN MUSIC AT BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY


Binghamton University President, Harvey Stenger speaks about the university's growth over the last five years, and two new professors speak about their experiences after completing their first semester.
The Binghamton University Department of Music has three concerts planned during the final week of classes for the spring semester.
•Modern Medieval, a vocal trio with Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek of Anonymous 4 and Roomful of Teeth’s Eliza Bagg and Martha Cluver, presents a program combining medieval chant and polyphony with new commissions. Featured will be two sets of new compositions pairing the visionary writings of Hildegard von Bingen with mystical poet Jalāl ad-DÄ«n Muhammad RÅ«mÄ«.
The concert will be held at 5 p.m. Friday in Casadesus Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building on the Vestal campus. Tickets for the concert are $10 for general admission; $7 for faculty, staff, alumni and seniors; or free for students. Purchase at the door.

The Harpur Studio Jazz Band will perform on May 8 at Binghamton University.
•The Harpur Studio Jazz Band will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, in Casadesus Recital Hall.
The band is a 10-piece ensemble which performs small-group repertoire of the post-bop era from the 1960s and beyond, with an emphasis on genres such as funk, modal, hard bop and Latin jazz.

The Nukporfe African Dance and Drumming Ensemble will perform May 10 at Binghamton University. 
•A concert of traditional African music, directed by Elikem Nyamuame, will be presented by the Nukporfe African Dance and Drumming Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in Watters Theater in the Fine Arts Building.
The presentation will include African music performed by a full ensemble of drummers and dancers. Tickets are $5 per person at the door.
