WhatsApp’s latest update gives you the ability to play YouTube videos inside chats so that you don’t have to be redirected to another app. It also makes a welcome change to voice recording, negating the need to continually hold down a button.
WhatsApp remains one of the biggest messasing platforms on the planet, with more than 1.5 billion users around the globe. It’s free and easy to use, and despite being owned by Facebook — which spies on your Messenger conversations — WhatsApp boasts encryption to protect your privacy.
The app’s developers have added some nice new features and improvements over the years without making WhatsApp too complicated. The latest changes make watching YouTube videos and recording voice messages easier than ever.
WhatsApp lets you watch YouTube videos
You can now watch YouTube videos within WhatsApp chats so that you can enjoy the funny new clip everyone’s talking about without being redirected to Safari or the YouTube app. This makes it easier to continue the conversation when you’re done.
What’s more, there’s picture-in-picture functionality, so you can use the rest of WhatsApp while the YouTube video plays in the corner of the screen.
WhatsApp has also added a lock mechanism to the voice recording button, which is activated by holding it down and swiping up. This means you no longer have to hold your finger on the button while creating a recording, and you can now hold your phone any way you like.
These improvements are rolling out in the latest stable version of WhatsApp for iOS. If you don’t already see it, it will be available to download from the App Store soon.
