The Wadsworth Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented Good Citizen awards to seniors from seven area high schools on April 3 in the City of Middletown Council Chambers. Middletown Mayor, the Honorable Daniel Drew, addressed the Good Citizens and their families.
Three of the students that received Good Citizen awards are from Cromwell. They are Mark Lavrentyev, Xavier High School; Lindsey Fritz, Mercy High School and Hannah Perry, Cromwell High School.
The Good Citizens awards recognize and reward high-school seniors who exemplify the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
Nationally, DAR members have volunteered more than 450,000 hours so far this year. The organization awards thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students and supports schools for under-served children with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.Article by Brenda Prunty
